I am so proud of myself, I have finally managed to attain my target weight. It has been a long road with many highs and lows, I nearly hit rock bottom, there were many a time when I wanted to give up but I kept battling and have now gained the success that I believe I deserve. I would say that the majority of people who are obese or over-weight are this way because of the amount of food that they consume and because of a lack of exercise. This was certainly true of my own situation.

I now take my lovely dog on four, thirty minute, walks each day. The difference that this makes is staggering and within only three months I had lost a lot of weight.

I also decided to start eating a bit healthier. I do still eat fatty type foods but try to not eat items such as crisps and chocolate. I have, in fact, stopped eating most forms of snack food in between each main meal.

This form of weight loss program, based on a little bit of exercise and a slight reduction in food intake, has proven to be a huge success for me personally and I am confident that it could help many other people to lose weight.

In this article I will be writing about the ways in which people can successfully lose weight. These tips work and can be of benefit to any person who is not happy with their current weight.

Digestion and Weight Loss - An Often Overlooked Path to Lose Weight

I recently wrote to someone who was experiencing nausea when they were eating despite being hungry all the time. Ill share with you what I wrote as this is a fairly common problem, and one that will severely limit your ability to lose weight.

Problems with digestion for whatever reason tend to cause problems whenever that system is used. Feeling sick when you eat could be related to that.

Digestive problems are often caused by stress but also have many other causes, including ingesting any synthetic substances (food additives, pesticides), drugs, alcohol, sugar, processed foods just to name a few. These problems also sometimes require a response from your immune system as undigested food can and often does make it into the blood stream when digestion isn't functioning properly.

It is important to take the pressure off your digestive system by eliminating all processed foods, sugar, and any chemicals from your diet which it wasn't designed to deal with. Avoid anything hard to process like heavy meats (for example beef and pork). You need to supply your body with something so try to eat soups or blended foods and see if you feel better.

This is only temporary though, a digestive system in trouble often causes other more serious problems, so it needs to be checked out by someone who knows what they are doing. I would recommend seeing a doctor who specialises in preventive or holistic medicine, as they are generally more aware of problems of this nature.

In my experience and learning from the experience of others, problems with the digestive system are very common and are often the reason why people can't lose weight or have intense cravings. It is vital that we take care of our digestive system as when dysfunction occurs here problems will manifest elsewhere and it is almost impossible to get good results from proper training and traditional dieting methods.

Eat More Often to Lose Weight?

If you're like me, you were probably raised on the concept of three square meals a day. Snacking between meals was discouraged.

It's time to forget that outdated advice. One of the best things you can do to accelerate your weight loss is to eat more often.

I am not saying to eat more food, just to spread it out more through your day. Take your total food allowance for the day and divide it into five or six meals instead of three.

I also suggest forgetting the concepts of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks as being carved in stone. Eat what you feel like that is part of your weight loss plan, at whatever time of day you like, as long as you consume the day's total food intake by the time you go to bed.

Why do this?

There are several reasons. First, by eating more often (even in smaller amounts), you will be more satisfied and less hungry throughout the day.

Second, by scheduling more meals, if you do get hungry, you can remind yourself that you have another meal scheduled in an hour or two. This will help you avoid an eating binge or going completely out of control.

Third, eating smaller meals is better for your body. You're less likely to suffer from indigestion or gas when you eat less at a time. Your body can process the food more effectively if you don't give it so much at once. This will keep your blood sugar more in check and make it less likely for food to be stored as
fat.

Fourth, this will make your weight loss plan more interesting and easier to follow, so you'll be more likely to stick with it long enough to reach your goals.

If your weight loss plan only calls for three meals a day, just divide some of the portions in half or separate some of the foods.

For example, instead of a whole sandwich, eat half of it now and half in two hours.

Instead of eating a bowl of cereal with a piece of fruit, save the fruit for later.

You don't have to make each meal exactly the same size as the others, just spread them out and keep the total daily amount of food the same.

By the way, this tip works even when you are just trying to maintain your weight, so don't think of it as just a diet trick.

You may be thinking you won't be satisfied with smaller meals. All I can say is just give it a try and you'll probably wonder how you ever got through life eating only three meals a day.

If you have eaten a nice big healthy breakfast, a large health lunch then you should only require a light dinner.

2. Cut out the snack foods

Eating in-between meals is one of the biggest weaknesses obese people tend to have. If you are serious about losing weight you need to cut out these snacks, unless they are healthy snacks such as fruit.

3. Own a dog

It may seem a crazy tip but owning a dog and taking that dog for regular walks is a great form of exercise and can seriously help when attempting to lose weight. There are many additional benefits of having a dog as a pet of course.

4. Buy an in-door gym

I often hear people say that they do not have time to go to a gym or that they feel out of place at a gym as it is full of fit people. These people have no excuse as they are now able to buy a gym for their home; this is proving to be ever more popular these days.

5. Stay off the booze

Alcohol is something that we need to either cut out or reduce our intake of when trying to lose weight as it is extremely fattening.

What To Do When You Just Can't Lose Weight

I know what it's like to be stuck. I lost some weight (25 lbs.) and then I stopped. I had about 25-30 lbs. to go and nothing was happening. I was exercising, eating healthy and no more weight loss. Here is how I was able to lose the rest of the weight I wanted to. You can do it too!

1. Rethink your diet.
